Where is the Costa de la Luz?

The Costa de la Luz, literally the “Coast of Light”, is situated on the SW coast of Spain, next to Portugal. Because it is close to Portugal it is also known as the “Spanish Algarve”.

It is a beautiful, unspoilt area with mile upon mile of superb, almost deserted golden-white sandy beaches backed by sand dunes and pine trees.

Inland there are dozens of traditional, whitewashed villages, unchanged for centuries. Yes, this is the real Spain!

There are larger towns, such as the lively Ayamonte (next to the Portuguese border) and the provincial city of Huelva. The splendid city of Seville is just an hour or so away by car. (There is even a regular bus service from Huelva, if you want a break from driving.)

Just along the coast is the El Coto Doñana National Park, one of the largest in Spain and full of wildlife and offering safari trips. Just one of the many exciting activities on the Costa de la Luz!

Getting to the Costa de la Luz

It could not be easier. Being next to Portugal, it is only about an hour’s drive from Faro Airport. There are many airlines flying into Faro from all over the UK, including several low-cost airlines. At Faro airport, you can hire a car from one of the many companies, both local and international, specialising in this market.

You can also fly into Seville. This too is little over an hour away by car. Whichever airport you choose, there is a fast motorway route to the Costa de la Luz.
